HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553n

I have a CLJ M553 which had a failed eMMc. I purchased a new eMMc from HP and installed it. Now I am unable to get the firmware updated on the device.

After installing the new eMMc the printer will start with a 99.39.67 eMMc Not Bootable error indicating the need to load firmware.

I have tried to load the firmware using multiple usb thumb drives. All of them begin the load and then stop with a Firmware Download - Download Error Unsupported Bundle. The thumb drives vary from new 3.0 to very old 2.0 devices. All have the same error. I have also tried to rename the bdl file as well. I have tried all available format options for the thumb drives starting with Fat32.

Looking at other discussions around this I tried to do both a Partial Clean, which does not give any indication whether it works or not. I also tried a Format Disk. This gives a Disk Partition Clean Error. I am not sure if there is a issue with the new eMMc itself.

There is only one firmware for this device available. Version 2309110_002028 FutureSmart Bundle Version 3.9.15 - HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M552/M553 Printer FIRMWARE

Any advice would be appreciated

I was finally able to get this to work successfully.

When I went back to check on it the Administrator>manage disk>boot disk>unlock/erase function was slashed out as unavailable. I was signed in so I am not sure why that was the case.

I ran a Secure Erase again and left the device all day. When I came back it was still on the screen that I left it performing the Secure Erase. I shut the printer down, restarted to the Pre-boot Menu and signed in again. I used Clear Password, and ran Format Disk which did not error out this time. After that the download of the firmware worked and the printer is now functioning as normal again.

Have you performed the password clear procedure? You need to enter the preboot menu, go to Administrator>manage disk>boot disk>unlock/erase. This resets the link between the drive and the formatter.

I did a Secure Erase. I do not think I did just a unlock/erase I will try that when I can get back to the printer. Thanks
