Happy to report that the replacement formatter board (P/N #T6B82-60001) fixed my issue. Replaced the board this afternoon and my printer is working again. The used board I purchased had a much older firmware on it, but the printer came to life after replacing it.

Interesting enough, the replacement board did have a 2-pin header already installed on the FW_UPGRADE option. Either way, I'm disabling automatic update. I don't trust HP after that.

One minor issue I found with replacing the formatter board is that the printer serial number will be wrong in the web interface. Apparently the serial number can be changed by sending a PJL file to the printer, but need to research more. No matter, the printer is working fine now with the replacement formatter board!!

Great to hear!  But sadly there is no way to fix this and be sure the next update does not trash the printer again!  I suppose one can turn off updates to avoid a potential issue.  But, then you miss getting some update that fixes other issues.  I am really hating HP right now.  All this could have been avoided by testing this update before it was shipped.

@Jerrykur - thanks! Yeah, I turned off the auto update feature before I enabled wireless! 🙂

Update: I followed this blog post and was able to update the serial number of the replacement formatter board:

Make it 14. Same issue. Had Service Error 79. Tried the hard reboot now I get the Service Error 49. Ridiculous.

If you need a sample PJL file I can make one available. You would just need to input your proper serial number and then send it to the printer.

Repairatrooper, thank you very much for your offer to help!

It wasn't too difficult. I was able to figure it out from this blog post: https://jacobsalmela.com/2015/02/05/change-the-serial-number-on-hp-printers-using-printer-job-langua...

It worked like a charm!

@Katherine73: Happy to hear this works! I'm still hoping HP will come with some solution soon otherwise I'm ordering one of those boards too. I just wish they would be cheaper, but compared to not having a printer at all it's okay.

I just got the answer "I´m sorrs, the printer is out of warranty" here in Germany via WhatsApp support. I´m going to get a spare parts dispenser tomorrow and i will either run the dispencer if it goes or rebuild the board. I kindly pointed out the error on HP´s part to support again and asked for a solution from HP. I have also pointed outthat i am an IT-Dealer an if HP´s lst word is HP will be banned from my range an customers will also communicate why!

Sorry for my bad English, it´s translate by Google.
