I have the exact same problem after the automatic FW-Update on my  MFP-M281fdw

Can someone post a link to this board that we have to buy now??

@Corey497 I bought mine from a computer recycler on eBay. You want do a search for 'HP T8B86-60001'. You need to find a formatter board that's been specifically pulled from an M281 printer (so the firmware is correct.)

For some reason, the two sellers that have them listed are selling them under 'T8B86-6001', but it's a typo. The best part is if there's a problem with the board they will both accept returns.

Happy to help if you get a replacement board. It's an easy fix.

I have a M281fdn ( no WiFi / LAN only). I removed my board first in order to compare pictures with the offers on aliexpress.

The part number is also T6B82-60001

I have then ordered this one: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005004076709812.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.135c1af2VI0SHh&algo_p...

Will take almost 4 weeks until it arrives in Germany. Hopefully it does not have the broken firmware on it. But I doubt that board sellers will update all their boards on stock regularly.

Thanks to Katherine73 for the good prep work and the instructions and youtube link how to dismantle the printer. (

metoo, tried to reset in cause of cartridge problems (btw original cartridge) and now mfp stucks in error 49 service error loop. plug off, soft reset, hard reset dosn´t work.

Same error, they clearly killed a perfectly functioning device with a broken update.

We all know pretty much every m281x is out of warranty, but they bricked it and they have to find a way to fix it.

I am not going to buy an additional board to tinker with it, I can't believe they don't have a mean to force push a firmware update through USB.

Is there a solution to this issue, as Im having the exact same issue?

Im not prepared to start removing parts and replacing them due to issue which I havent caused.

I contacted HP for an update on my open case this morning, I was informed that the issue had been escalated to another team who are currently looking into it and that they would contact me once they have an update.
