I had a problem after changing the timers; I start to get the message with the printing not recognizing the original HP toners. Printer was working on and off ; smart hp app could not estimate new toner and on the printer the display was showing a question mark on each supplier.

I called HP which asked me to replace the new with the old  and all worked fine. 500$ of new HP original toners.

Then their procedure says to update the firmware (which went ok) and since that moment the printer showed error 49 and started to boot loop; printer warranty was expired and they basically destroyed the printer by applying (on a remote connected session) the firmaware.

So I guess that HP has something to explain

and fast. For me this is the last HP product no matter what. In 30 years of buying up product this situation reached the unacceptable and intollerabile level. 
Now i m contacting media to raise the stake.

@Repairatrooper ja das mag sein, aber ich brauche heute meinen Drucker. nicht in Monaten.

Sehen wir es mal so am 10.10. kam das Update, vor 21 Tagen. Erfahren und verstanden das es das Update verursacht hat HP vielleicht am 20. oder 21.10., spätestens jetzt muss HP etwas machen und Kunden Lösungen anbieten! Und nicht die Kudnen auf die abgelaufene Garantie hinweisen.

Es muss in diesem Riesen Konzern doch einen geben der das entscheiden kann. Und außerdem ist auch nicht jeder M281fdw betroffen, manche haben Updates aus oder hängen nicht im LAN.

Es würde HP also nicht ruinieren eher nur Peanuts kosten. Die versuchen das aber lieber auszusitzen.

What version of firmware did you use?  I don't want to accidentally mess up the new board!

@Jerrykur - Since I have genuine HP toner cartridges, I went with the 20220414 firmware release (version prior to the one that bricked everyone's printer.) If you have aftermarket toner cartridges, then you'll want the 20200612 firmware release (which is the last version prior to lockout.)

Same thing happened to me. But I am using HP genuine cartridges. I think they just bricked all our printers. Mine literally went out 2 days before my warranty went out but its impossible to get anyone from HP on the phone to assist. This is totally unacceptable.

@3854michaelr  The revision date, in this case 20221010 is not always the same as the date it actually gets released. In this case it appears that the firmware was posted around the 18th of the month. HP was not immediately aware of the issue but did withdraw on the following Wednesday or Thursday. I am not in a position to either criticize or defend the time frame, nor will I speculate on how long a fix will take to arrive. HP will likely be hoping for a software fix for this, but if that does not work, replacement of the formatter may be the only solution, as demonstrated by @katherine73  who replaced the formatter on their device. 

It is absolutely terrible to have to make alternate arrangements to print including some who simply could not wait and feel forced to purchase a new device.

@Repairtrooper ja das kann schon sein, aber ich meine gelesen zu haben veröffentlicht am 10.10.2022. aber das ist alles komplett egal.

HP müsste hier zumindest sagen wenn sie an einer kundenorientierten Lösung interessiert sind, wartet bitte ab wir arbeiten an einer Lösung und schauen was wir tun können.

 

Nichts desto trotz habe ich gesetern einen Kompletten funktionierenden M281fdw gekauft und abgeholt und die Platine umgebaut, ich bin selbstständig und brauche meinen Drucker. Und einen neuen Drucker werde ich mir definitiv nicht kaufen.

Habe erst 500€ für Toner investiert.

@Prout33 genau dasselbe wurde mir in Deutschland auch mehrfach so durch den Support bestätigt. 

auch mir wurde der Kauf eines neuen Druckers angeboten. Was ich aber abgelehnt habe. 

Nie wieder HP, okay sehen wir es nüchtern Sie sind auch gesetzlich nicht dazu verpflichtet, aber auch nicht an einer Kundenfreundlichen Lösung interessiert.

Ich war ebenfalls in Kontakt mit dem HP Support, leider ohne Erfolg.
Der Fehler wird begründet mit Fremdtoner, ich habe aber nur Originaltoner eingesetzt.
Habe nachgefragt nach dem Formatterboard, das ist aber nicht lieferbar. Somit bleibt nur Elektroschrott übrig.
