Having spoken to support today, they acknowledge the issue with the firmware was not caused by the firmware, but the way it was applied over certain networks.

They have a fixed version of the firmware to be shipped in a week or so, so now we just wait and see. Currently sat with error 49 loop, so not sure how I will be able to apply the updated firmware, is there a way of uploading via USB or does this printer not support it?

I've also been told that I have to wait for the December update, "as Firmware can be applied going forwards but firmware can't be retro-installed".

I don't believe that this proposed solution will work either, although I hope to be proved wrong.

If it comes down to a replacement Formatter Board, I've been told that these are obsolete in the UK.

I do not believe the December update will work.  I have the 20220414 RFU file and it will not update to that version either by any means.

Let's stay positive, at least they acknowledged the problem and are looking for a solution. Hopefully they find a solution that wil work for everyone. For now I can wait, but the sooner the better.

I meant 0414 revision as well, edited for clarity.

I agree, I'm hopeful it has something in the code that allows it to force the firmware update through.

This is what I have done so far:
So my printer was working perfectly on Nov. 2, Then after HP bricked my MFP M281fdw and the Resend upgrade error started appearing. I did the firmware downgrade like a lot of people did and after that the 79 error appeared and upper roller quit working. Soon after that the error 49 started and just kept rebooting non-stop. Then I purchased a formatter board on ebay from the guy in florida and received it and installed it. Everything came to life and all features work now. But when it prints it gets all jammed up when it comes out the top of the printer. (The Image and text is all on the paper and dry, but bunched up like an accordion and I have to pull it out by hand), It did not do this before. So I brought it to a local HP Service Repair Shop here in town and they looked at it and said it was the fuser assembly and gave me a quote of over $500 to repair it. Well I told tell I’ll think about it. When I got home I found the correct fuser assembly only ($99) and it was new so I ordered it. It came in I installed it and it does the exact same thing still jams right before it comes out the printer. I did notice that the formatter board is from a MFP M281cdw and mine is a MFP M281fdw and It shows up in the printer web GUI as a MFP M281cdw with the new formater board installed. I know people are saying they are interchangeable and it should not make any difference. Has anyone with a M281fdw installed a formatter board from a M281cdw having this same issue. Anybody has any suggestions on this one.

PS: I've also rechecked all cables and ribbon connections multiply times and they all look good and seated properly.

I have tried all the suggestions and the 49 error persists. Can't get to the menu.  I am willing to take this to the HP serice center and wait while they fix. I am sure it is caused by an update as it worked perfectly before.

Same here. HP should post a location in the Silcon Valley where we can wait while the problem is repaired. HP is the cause.

The printer warranty should correlate to the price. It seems HP is dumping the cost of a fix on the consumer. I had many issues with my previous HP8160.  I save to afford the Color Jet.
