The only way that anyone is going to get satisfaction from this is to keep pushing HP. I previously posted the link to the contact site for the executive board and encourage everyone to use that to make them aware of the issue. Sadly I believe that most people will just walk away or repair themselves as the time required to see this through may not be viewed as time well spent. However, this is as much about the principle to me.  I continue to push where I can on this issue and the suggested solutions that have come from HP to this point have not resolved the problem for my customer, as much as the tech support group claims that it will. The sad reality of previous "class action suits" is that the lawyers will make millions and users will get a 20.00 coupon for a discount on cartridges. That is often how these things settle out in court.

FYI - the link to contact the board of directors, on submission of the form returns a 404 error (weird, a lot of the links in the exec board section do).  So far the twitter team nor my "case manager" have acknowledged a route to otherwise e-contact the board:  I am going to send a paper / physical letter which is also one of the contact methods though.

Last week, I did receive an offer from my "case manager" of a $50 gift certificate to use at HP.com towards a new printer as a 'courtesy' which I declined asking for further escalation.  So far, no further response.

As a business customer, I cannot risk purchasing a board of unknown provenance  and a potentially compromised firmware download into our corporate network.  Hoping that HP will get this to someone who wants this printer back and I'll happily ship it to them.  But so far, I don't think that any of the people I've talked to "...working on behalf of HP"  are willing or able to escalate to the right type of personnel to get movement or direct attention.

@LM-IT-OPS  did not know it was having issues. There is always this email address which is shared by the board of directors

@JoopR I order at same place and had same comment, what is this software ?

@Katherine73 : thank you for the story, the help, and support. I connected the new formatter board but the panel remain black, the I bought a 24 pin flat cable (20cm), and the panel remain black. then I tested the old formatter board with new 24 pin flat cable, panel remain black. I don't know if the panel is out of order or the new flat cable 24 pin is not the right one. I tried to repair the original flat cable, the test with both boards, the panel remain black. Do you have any insights ? new panel or where I can I find the right flat cable ? thank you

@RichFR: It's a Zip file I got from the shop within Aliexpress. It seems to initialize the board so it will activate the firmware (In my case the 202006xx one). There is some Chinese documentation which you have to pull through Google translate. But it's simple to use.

JOOP! @JoopR OMG THAT WORKED I USED USBSEND TO SEND CLJ..202204...ENG.RFU.. I put the printer into firmware update mode by jumping the 2 pins, then removed my jumper, used usbsend and then got a message saying complete!

The rfu in the zip file did not work, had to use an official one to fully reprogram the board.

Turned the printer back off and on and good to go!

I jumped fw update with a small screwdriver.  Then plugged the printer in.

Edit - good news, usbsend is a  HP software - https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/M28W-bricked/m-p/8302199/highlight/true...

Fix Instructions:

Just discovered it's an HP software so the instructions are use this file and send the firmware rfu. May need to be in fw update mode, I dunno.

USBsend.exe file.rfu

USBsend: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/ready2dl/USBSend.exe

Firmwares: (I used the .eng one but either should work) http://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/pfirmware/cljmfpM280fw_20220414.nativeofficefonts.rfu

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/pfirmware/cljmfpM280fw_20220414.ENG.rfu

It's been reported you should flash the .ENG one.  Then use the regular firmware update exe from HP to install the nativeofficefonts version.  This firmware seems to allow turning off cartridge security as well.

@Incith: Great you got it working! I was happy too when I fixed my printer after a couple of frustrating weeks.
