Just ran the instructions from https://itbacon.com/2022/11/27/fixing-hp-m281-error-49/ and it works again! Really happy here.

Some things were a bit confusing to me as a noob, so maybe some extra tips below:

-When the printer is bricked you can't get it to connect to USB as suggested to do first.

-First jump the two connections and get the printer in program mode. I have the European model, so you don't jumper the two dots next to each other. Use the connections as indicated on a.m. site where the arrows point at.

-If you double click on usbsend.exe nothing seems to happen. Open the cmd window in windows and make sure you are in folder Downloads. If both usbsend and cljmfpM280fw_20220414.ENG.rfu are in this folder type the command as indicated and it works.

-If that worked your printer should be discoverable from windows and you can run M280_Series_FW_Update-20220414.nativeofficefonts.exe to update to the last working firmware.

-If needed you can then reinstall the printer in windows.

-Getting the printer cover off wasn't all that hard, but getting it back on was a bit of a pain.

All happy here. Many thanks to the contributors to this solution. " Thanks"  HP for doing nothing. Your trick to brick printers and force users to be a new one didn't work.

Happy to see people make their printer alive again 🙂

I got the side cover off without difficulties... and discover I have REV A card (in EU / France).

According to photos from https://itbacon.com/2022/11/27/fixing-hp-m281-error-49/ (thank you SO much for your explanations !!!), it's a little different I think... no pins or something I can jump...

You are talking about "a.m. site where the arrows point at" ?  I miss something there.

Here is a detail  of the card I have if it helps.

Hi Prout33, this is the picture you need. I used a short piece of solid copper wire. It's all very small, but it worked for me.

@Arnaud_French Merci ! Merci ! Merci ! çà a marché !

Encore merci infiniment Arnaud
