Hello, I have a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw. It just updated to the newest firmware. Now the screen freezes and I have to restart it to get the screen to work. I've tried resetting to defaults. What am I missing? Anyone have the last version of firmware? It worked great with it! Now it's useless as a copying machine

Hi @Steveo0,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the Power: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall outlet, then turn the printer back on.

Reinstall Firmware

  1. Download Previous Firmware Version: You can find the previous firmware version on the HP Firmware Archive.
  2. Install Firmware: Follow the steps outlined on the HP website to download and reinstall the desired firmware version:
    • Download: Download the firmware file for your printer model.
    • Installation: Use the printer's control panel or HP Printer software to install the firmware.

Perform Factory Reset

  1. Access Settings: Go to the printer's control panel and tap the "Setup" or "Settings" icon.
  2. Navigate to Reset Options: Look for "Restore Defaults" or "Factory Reset".
  3. Confirm Reset: Follow prompts to confirm the factory reset.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download Tool: Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run Diagnostic: Open the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix issues with your printer.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply! I am unable to access the firmware archive. https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/firmware/ It says not found. Is there a trick for accessing this? Thanks!!

Hi!
I do not have a problem updating to the current firmware. I would like to download the previous version. I did not have any problems with the screen freezing. The link you posted to the ftp service did not work. I feel it’s unacceptable for a printer that was 600$ and not have access to a previous firmware. Some people buy these machines for more than a few years and don’t care to turn it off and on every time they needed to print or copy something.
thanks!

Hi @Steveo0,

Thank you for your follow-up, and I completely understand your frustration, especially with a device as essential and premium as yours.

Unfortunately, HP does not support or provide official options to downgrade firmware once it’s been updated. Firmware updates are designed to improve performance, security, and compatibility, and as such, previous versions are typically not available for public download or reinstallation.

Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.

Take care!
