Good day,

Color cartridge is not recognized or only partially recognized. We have installed new original color cartridges in an HP Officejet Pro 8600. The color cyan is not recognized and the other colors are only partially recognized, i.e. a quarter or half. We have removed the cartridge, checked and cleaned the contacts, unfortunately without success.

Thank you very much and greetings

Florian

Hi @HEMFK,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer series - N911 is not recognizing the cyan cartridge and only partially recognizing other color cartridges, here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:

1. Check for Proper Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure the cartridges are correctly seated in their respective slots. Sometimes, cartridges might not be fully inserted or may click into place incorrectly.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove all the cartridges from the printer.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Let them dry for a few minutes before reinserting.

3. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect it to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if it recognizes the cartridges.

4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. You can download the latest firmware from the HP support website specific to your printer model.
  • Follow the instructions provided on the HP website to update the firmware.

5. Check Cartridge Authenticity

  • Ensure that all installed cartridges are genuine HP products. Non-genuine cartridges can sometimes cause recognition issues.
  • Verify this by checking the packaging and any authentication labels.

6. Check Cartridge Venting

  • Make sure the plastic tape that covers the ink nozzles has been completely removed.
  • Also, check if there are any obstructions in the cartridge vent area. If a cartridge is not venting correctly, it can cause recognition issues.

7. Try Different Cartridges

  • If you have spare cartridges or can borrow some from a similar printer, try using them to determine if the issue is with the cartridges or the printer itself.

8. Perform a Printer Hard Reset

  • This can sometimes resolve recognition issues.
  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then back into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if it recognizes the cartridges.

9. Perform an Ink System Reset

  • Remove all cartridges from the printer.
  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Reinstall the cartridges one by one, making sure each clicks into place.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
