Sudenly, my HP 3515 stuck and showed a msg "Color cartridge malfunction", even after I have changed it for a new one
My Multifunction HP 3515 has worked perfectly for more than 10 years. Never had any problem.
Does anybody has a suggestion, please?

Hi @sgcfreitas,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3515 e-All-in-One Printer is showing a “Color cartridge malfunction” error even after replacing it with a new cartridge, here’s what you can try to fix it:

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

Make sure the replacement cartridge is:

  • Genuine HP and not refilled or third-party.
  • Compatible with your printer model and region.

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

Sometimes, ink or debris on the copper contacts causes errors.

Steps:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the color cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Let it dry for 5 minutes, then reinstall.

3. Reset the Printer

This clears residual errors.

Steps:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error clears.

4. Try Single-Cartridge Mode

If the error persists:

  • Remove the color cartridge.
  • Leave only the black cartridge installed.
  • The printer may enter single-cartridge mode, allowing you to print in black only.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
