I have an Officejet Pro 8715 printer. I have set my printer to use black ink only and have never used the colored ink. I do not have it set for gray scales. I constantly get warnings that my color ink has run out and my printing gets interrupted and I have to reset. What can be done about this? I will not spend a fortune to replace color ink cartridges I've never used.

@MarcA100, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
HP Officejet 8715 printer is designed in such a way that it uses color and black inks to print in black. This is to balance the amount of ink usage on the printer. To produce a perfect black, the printer utilizes the color ink as well.
Even while you are trying to print only in color, you will have to have ink in the black ink cartridge.
You will have to replace any empty ink cartridge to continue printing. This is as per design.

I have the printer settings to use black ink only. I have never replaced the black ink in my printer and I have about a half cartridge and it's not a high capacity cartridge and all my color cartridges are empty. Are you saying that if I print in black ink only, it will use up 3 whole color cartridges and only 1/2 the black?
I actually do not believe what you're saying because when I do print, I get a warning that my color cartridges are empty and it asks me to confirm if I want to print in black only, which is a real pain but the black only prints just fine with no color cartridges..
Who can I speak to get a remedy for this. It does not seem like this should work this way. If it does, then Goodbye HP!

HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer does not support printing in single cartridge mode. You will have to replace any empty ink cartridge to resume printing without having to see the notifications.
I think this issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction with our HP Support team.
