Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw printer.   I just bought a new win11 pc.  The printer is connected with ethernet.  No problem with printing from within normal MS documents.   However I get an error message when trying to print a pdf from within the pdf document.  I can print the pdf after opening the HP Smart app and selecting the pdf file from there.  Error message:  "Error printer [nam] couldn't print. in queue.

Note:  I have another PC that's win10 and it has no problem!

Any suggestions?

Thx.

Hi @irvserve,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue might be related to the printer driver or settings on your new Windows 11 PC. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw for Windows 11.
  • Install the drivers and check if the issue persists.

Check Printer Queue:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw and click on Open queue.
  • Check if there are any stuck print jobs and clear them.

Set as Default Printer:

  • In Printers & scanners, make sure your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw is set as the default printer.

Check PDF Reader Settings:

  • Ensure that the PDF reader (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Reader) you’re using is up to date.
  • Try printing the PDF from a different PDF reader to see if the issue is specific to one application.

Print as Image:

  • Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Go to File > Print.
  • Click on Advanced and check the Print as Image option.
  • Try printing again.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Remove the printer from Printers & scanners and reinstall it.
  • Go to Add a printer or scanner, find your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw, and add it again.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows 11 PC is up to date with the latest updates, as sometimes compatibility issues are resolved through system updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

thx for the suggestions.   I actually ended up talking directly to HP support person and we did some screen sharing.   First tried printing using browser to open the file and printing from the browser - that worked with no error.  Still couldn't print from within the doc.   Support person e\Ended up renaming & setting up a manual IP address and setting that as the new default.   That fixed the problem.   Sill not sure why thought 🙂
