HP ENVY 4528 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have different problems with my Envy 4528 All-in-one. From working perfectly a year ago there have been different issues and I have tried to resolve trough deleting and reinstalling a.s.o. N o the situation persists with the color option gone - only a greyed out palette and options for grey and black and white are available. But when I test it via HP Smart I get perfect color and calibration. So how can this be resolved? The printer has ink, is found on the network - and the automatic two page printing suddenly worked again after a long time only giving manual two page printing option.

Hi @sueede,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 4528 All-in-One Printer losing the color print option, despite successful test prints in color, is likely due to a configuration issue in the printer settings or driver. Here's how to resolve this:

Step 1: Check Printer Settings in Windows

  1. Access Printer Properties:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and select Printing preferences.
  2. Check Color Options:
    • Look for a Color or Quality tab.
    • Ensure that Color or Automatic (Color/Black and White) is selected instead of Black and White or Grayscale.

Step 2: Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Remove Existing Driver:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your printer and click Remove device.
  2. Clear Driver Cache:
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand Print queues and uninstall the driver for your printer.
    • Restart your PC.
  3. Download and Reinstall the Driver:
    • Visit the HP Customer Support website and download the latest driver for the HP ENVY 4528 compatible with Windows 11.
    • Install the driver, following the on-screen instructions.

Step 3: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support site.
  2. Run the tool and let it diagnose and fix any issues with your printer setup.

Step 4: Reset the Printer

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and power it on.
  4. Retry printing and check if the color option is restored.

Step 5: Check for HP Smart App Settings

  1. Open the HP Smart app.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Go to Printer Settings and ensure the color printing option is enabled.

Step 6: Verify Application-Specific Settings

  • If you're printing from a specific application (e.g., Microsoft Word), check the Print Options or Preferences in the app and ensure color printing is enabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have done all the things you recommend. This morning (08.30 CET 24-07-11) I tried to install the recommended webpack. I get the same error message as several times before. (I have uninstalled everything connected to HP printer incl printer queue) Trying to get around the problem by using HP Smart gives printing possibilities but in black and white.

To add to the situation: Is this something you recognize?

After unistalling every part of the HP printing software I have tried several times to install the full webpack. Then I get into this situation. A reply from the software says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. The folder in which the installation package is supposed to be is missing, but after every attempt with this installation software there is a new folder created with the indicated E4520x64.msi-file. When I change the search path to this it is not accepted by the installation program. This very installation folder 7zS4C2C is not created. Here are three screenshots - in no 3 there is a folder with the requested name but this one is created by me where I copied all the files from one of the other installation folders, but it was not accepted.

Clicking the msi-file in another library gets me this:

Is there a solution to this?

Hi.

I have tried all the suggested solutions that you describe, and some others as well. Printing the tespage from Windows Printers and Scanners page sends me a printed sheet where it declares "Supports color printing: Yes". But when going to Print settings I have a page where there is neither phot paper option available, nor color printing. Only "Common everyday printing, "Duplex printing" (where automatic duplex is no longer available either), "Fast economic printing", and "Factory settings". When printing the textpage from the HP Smart app I get color printed.

Obviously there is something wrong with your software as the machine itself does what it is supposed to do. Pleas take this seriously. I have found that I wrote to you about this already in 2019, as long with a number of others like Carole from Italy.
