Envy 4500 A9T80A
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I have used the HP Envy 4500 to print from my macbook pro for a while with no problems, then today it says it cannot connect to the printer.  I uninstalled it to try to reinstall but now it is only showing it as a scanner.  Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

I understand you are having the issue with your printer while printing. Try the steps below and check:

  1. Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  2. Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
  3. Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  4. Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  5. Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  6. Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  7. Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  8. Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list.
  9. Restart your computer and printer.
  10. Now go to http://hp.care/2eNW7wU to install the HP Easy start which will download and install the new printer drivers for MAC 10.12.
  11. In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)
