Envy 5000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having difficulty connecting my printer to my pc using the USB cable.  It is working OK wirelessly but I am hoping that I can set it up so that I can use the menus on my pc screen as opposed to the screen on the printer.

Also, when using the scanning option, I don't seem to get a choice of where to save the scanned document to.  I've recently replaced my hp pcs 1317 with this Envy 5000 and the scanning options were much better on the old machine.  Another problem is, if I have a number of pages to scan, there doesn't seem to be an option to 'add another sheet' which I had on the old maching.  With this one it asks me if I want to scan another document but, when I do, it saves it as a seperate item rather than with the original. Therefore if you have a ten page document, you end up with ten different files rather than one with ten pages in it to scroll through.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Many thanks for any help offered.

Hi,

Firs, if the installation success via your wireless network but fails for a USB connecion the USB cord is likely faulty.

Try plugging the USB to anotthe port at the back of your PC, use a cable not longer than 2 meters long and avoid any USB hubs or extentions as a printer consume an higher voltage via USB... if there is no change try anotehr USB cable and check.

For the Scan settings open the HP Scan software by clicking Scan a Document or Photo from teh printer software.

Select Save as PDF.

Ensure the scan resolution is set as 300DPI or lower and the Show Viewer option is checked.

Click teh More > option at the right pane and select the Destination tab, from there you may select the target folder.

You may also check the box next to Show Save As Dialog, then a dialog to browse for the scan location will be shown after each scan.

Once you are done modifying the settings press the disk icon near the scan shortcut name to save the changes.

Regards,

Shlomi

Hello Shlomi, Thank you so much for trying to hel.

I have the software installed (hopefully correctly) but when I click on Scan I get a message that says Envy 5000 not found.

The USB cable that I am using is exactly the one that I was using with my old printer but it doesn't seem to want to work.

If I go into device Manager and look under printers, it shows HP ENVY 5000 series PCL-3.  I would think from that that the printer is being recognised by the computer.

Any further thoughts please.  Thanks again for your input.

I've just tried something else and there is a message that says further installation required.

When I went into Properties I found the following, not sure if it might be this causing the problem.

Device USBPRINT\HPENVY_5000_series\7&288a868c&0&USB001 requires further installation.

I uninstalled everything to do with HP and then reinstalled the software again.  I got a message to say that the installation was successful but, when I click on the icon on the desktop I just get a message that says Connect a new device or convert a USB device to wireless or add more software.  If I go into add a new device and choose USB, I then get a message that says plug the square end of the USB cable into the back of the device and the plug the flat end into any available USB port but, having done that I can't move on from that screen at all.

And yet when I installed the software again after uninstalling it all, I got the message that it was successful and all was ready to go.

When I click on the Envy icon on my desktop, I no longer get the box that covers printing and scanning.
