Hi, I have a HP 4155e with an orange light that stays lit up. When I click on it, it prints a page but only gives me 3 symbols. One is WiFi but the WiFi is on, one kind of looks like a printer with paper hanging out and I’m not sure what the top one is. I don’t know if I should be concerned or what! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! 🙂

@Kells33, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're seeing a constant orange light by the Information button on your HP DeskJet 4155e, and when you press it, it prints a page with three symbols, Wi-Fi, a printer with paper, and an unknown icon. Let’s walk through what this means and how to resolve it.

What the Symbols Mean

The page printed when pressing the Information button is a Wireless Network Test Report or Printer Status Report. The icons typically represent:

  1. Wi-Fi Icon – Indicates the printer’s wireless connection status.
  2. Paper Icon – May indicate a paper-related issue (e.g., paper jam, no paper, or incorrect paper size).
  3. Exclamation/Error Icon – This is likely the unknown symbol you're seeing. It signals a general error or warning, such as:
    • Low or empty ink cartridges
    • Cartridge not installed correctly
    • Paper jam
    • Network connection issue

Steps to Troubleshoot the Constant Orange Light

Please try the following steps:

Check for Paper Issues

  • Open the input and output trays.
  • Remove any jammed or misaligned paper.
  • Ensure the paper is loaded correctly and the paper-width guides are snug.

Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Make sure both cartridges (black and tri-color) are properly seated.
  • If you recently replaced a cartridge, ensure it's a genuine HP cartridge and not a setup cartridge.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts if needed. HP Cartridge Cleaning Guide

Check the Display Panel

  • Look for any error icons or blinking lights.
  • Refer to the control panel icon meanings in the HP DeskJet 4155e User Manual (see page 94 for error codes).

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Reset the Printer

If the issue persists, perform a factory reset:

  • Press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • This will reset network settings and may clear persistent errors.

Update Firmware

  • Use the HP Smart App to check for firmware updates.
  • Ensure your printer is connected to Wi-Fi and your device has internet access.

If the orange light remains on after these steps, please reply with:

  • A photo of the printed page with the symbols
  • Any error codes or blinking patterns on the printer display

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
