The touchscreen is not accessible because it has a message" A problem has occurred with one of the printers critical system files A printer update will be installed to fix this problem".
I have tried restarting, tried a hardware reset {unsuccessful}, tried with the HP smart app {not so smart}
Not sure what to do apart from lighting it on fire.
Can anyone help?

Hi @glenffs,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8015e printer is stuck due to a critical system file error, and despite restarting and trying to reset the printer, you're still facing the issue. Here are a few more troubleshooting steps you can try before resorting to extreme measures like "lighting it on fire".
Perform a Semi-Full Reset
This reset will restore the printer to factory defaults, clearing most issues without affecting the firmware or system files.
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Press and hold the printer's Power button while reconnecting the power cord. Continue holding the power button until the printer turns on.
- Check if the error persists.
Update Firmware via USB
Sometimes when the printer is stuck with an error, updating the firmware through a USB connection can help bypass the problem.
- Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Support website.
- Connect the printer via USB to your computer.
- Open the downloaded firmware file and follow the instructions to install the update on your printer.
Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers via HP Smart App
If the app didn't work initially, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers.
- Uninstall the printer from your computer and remove it from the HP Smart app.
- Restart your computer and reinstall the printer drivers.
- Use the HP Smart app to add the printer again and see if it resolves the issue.
Update Printer Using HP Print and Scan Doctor
This HP tool can diagnose and automatically fix problems with your printer.
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.
- Select your printer and follow the on-screen instructions to scan and fix issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Same exact error event happened to me within one day of the originla poster and from what I have seen in other forums, we are not alone. Computers, routers, and other tech have consistently gotten better decade over decade. Printers have just become horrible. If anyone has more help to offer with this 'brick', please chime in. Fool me one HP, shame on you... fool me 16 times, ah, skip it.

HP really just needs to push messages/updades that say, "Hi, we are going to force an update will absolutly break your hardware which is out of support coverage date. This will cost you a minimum of $29.99 either way. To accept press "yes" to decline press "yes" anyway. You have no option.
