Hi @crawfish7, Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

You're encountering the message "Deleted cartridge must be replaced" even after installing a new Cyan CN050AN cartridge in your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (N911g). Let's walk through the steps to resolve this:

Step 1: Confirm Cartridge Authenticity

Ensure the cartridge is a genuine HP 951 Cyan (CN050AN). Counterfeit or refilled cartridges can trigger this error.

Step 2: Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

This clears temporary memory and may reset the cartridge detection.

Step 3: Clean Cartridge and Electrical Contacts

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the Cyan cartridge.
  3. Gently clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  4. Let it dry for 5 minutes.
  5. Reinsert the cartridge and close the door.

Step 4: Try a Different Cyan Cartridge

If the issue persists, try inserting another new or known-working Cyan 951 (CN050AN) cartridge. If that works, the original cartridge may be defective.

Step 5: Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues.
