Hi @KUNA123,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you encounter an error like "An error occurred communicating with the printer" during the driver installation or configuration of your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M126a, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or network connection.
  • Check if the printer is powered on and there are no hardware issues.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues. Try turning off both your computer and the printer, then turn them back on.

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Make sure you are using the latest drivers for your printer model. Visit the HP website and download the most up-to-date drivers for your printer.
  • If you have already installed drivers, try uninstalling them and then reinstalling the latest ones.

Disable Firewall or Antivirus Software:

  • Your firewall or antivirus software might be blocking communication between your computer and the printer. Temporarily disable them and attempt the installation again.

Check USB Cable:

  • If you are using a USB connection, try using a different USB cable. A faulty cable can sometimes cause communication issues.

Network Configuration:

  • If your printer is connected over a network, ensure that it's correctly configured and can be reached from your computer.

Printer Reset:

  • Try resetting your printer to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve configuration issues.

Windows Troubleshooter:

  • In Windows, you can use the built-in printer troubleshooter to diagnose and fix common printer problems. Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners" and run the troubleshooter.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Some third-party software might be conflicting with the printer installation. Try performing the installation in Safe Mode to rule out this possibility.

Update Your Operating System:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches.

Remember to back up your data and ensure you have administrative privileges on your computer before making significant changes to your system. Additionally, follow the specific instructions provided by HP for your printer model when installing drivers and configuring your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
