Duplex Printing stopped working from last couple of weeks. Whenever I send a duplex job for printing, the paper either gets stuck in the printer or its not able to pull the paper back to print on the other side. Have tried cleaning the printer heads, check the alignment and everything looks ok. This started after I had my first paper jam in 2 years of purchase.

What could be the problem? Is this something I can fix on my own or do I need professional help?

@TechLiveMANA, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with duplex printing due to paper jams in your HP Smart Tank 720 All-in-One printer. This problem likely arose after the recent paper jam, which might have disrupted some of the internal mechanisms or sensors related to paper feeding. Here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the duplex unit if possible and look for any small pieces of paper that might be causing an obstruction.
  • Ensure that all paper guides within the input and output trays are correctly aligned with the edges of the paper.

Inspect Rollers:

  • Clean the paper rollers to ensure they aren't slipping. Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently wipe the rollers. Allow them to dry completely.

Use Recommended Paper:

  • Ensure you are using paper that meets the printer's specifications, as incorrect paper can sometimes cause feeding issues.
  • Check that the paper is loaded correctly and the paper size setting matches the size of the paper being used.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Verify that the software settings on your computer for duplex printing are correctly configured.
  • Ensure any firmware updates are installed through the HP Smart app or HP website.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn it on and try printing again.

Perform a Hardware Reset:

  • A potential hardware reset may be necessary if obstructions and misalignments aren't issues. Refer to HP's support website for instructions specific to your printer model to perform a reset.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
