How can I force ink cartridges to LIE to my printer?

I am trying to use a Photosmart c8180 that has not been used for a year

maybe 2. There is plenty of ink in the cartridges, but 'date wise' they are

expired. The printer thinks they are empty.

How can I entice the printer to use the cartridges?

Problem solved !!

By turning the printer on and off several times and switching ink cartridges with used ones in

and out, the printer finally accepted the cartridges as OK.

You can't because the expiration date is stored on an integrated circuit ( chip) that is located on each cartridge. If you replace chips with aftermarket ones then the printer will accept inks.

Also, 2 years being unused is a way too long period for an inkjet printer, if you get your printer to accept ink cartridges you will very likely have print quality issues.
