My printer - less than 3 years old, went dead. I tried re-inserting the power cable at either end - no help. Than I replaced the power cable with a duplicate, and it seemed to work. The printer was fine for a week, then went dead again. Now what? Printer model: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283 cdw. Can a power unit fail after just 3 years?

Do I have to replace the printer, or is there some solution?

Hello,

Just a suggestion... Try the below steps,

  1. Unplug the power cord from the printer.
  2. Remove the Toner cartridges from the printer.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds
  4. Plug in the power cord firmly to back of the printer  & the other end of it directly to wall outlet ( bypass the surge protector or power strip )
  5. Press the ON button on the printer. If it does not power on then its time to get the printer serviced. Most likely the power module would have gone faulty.

Re: HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M283cdw

Some weeks ago, my printer just powered off and would not come back. I removed the power cable then plugged it in again  - nothing. I thought I solved the issue when I replaced the power cable with a duplicate. The printer re-awakened and was fine for a week, then went dead again. This time - I'm stuck with no solution.  My printer is less than 3 years old - could it really have a worn out power unit this fast?   Is replacing the whole machine the only solution?

I'm eager to try your suggestion, but how did you remove that right side panel?  I had to open the back panel, easy enough, and saw a Phillips head screw anchoring the right side panel. I removed that - no help. II took out two other screws that may or not not have fastened down that panel - it still won't budge.- maybe I'm missing something you might know about.

You just saved me over $600. Thanks!!  Just curious - how was removing the toner cartridges the key to this?
