HP DeskJet 1112 Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Recently my HP DeskJet 1112 has stopped working entirely. The light on top blinks incessantly, more quickly than it normally does when receiving a print job. The HP Utility app cannot find the printer at all when plugged in by USB. When I press the button on top, the blinking pauses briefly, then immediately resumes. I have tried unplugging the printer for several minutes and plugging it back in, to no effect.

Is there a way to do a factory reset on this model? I cannot think what else to do since there is only one button on the entire printer.

Hi @mspiegel0,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

Hi Irwin6,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately none of these options work. For Option A, I cannot access the ink cartridges at all. Normally when I open the front of the printer, the cartridge carriage automatically slides to the right so that I can access the cartridges. At the moment, nothing at all happens when I open the front of the printer and the cartridges are tucked away where I can't remove them. I tried unplugging the cord and holding the power button for 15 seconds as you suggested, with no effect.

For Option B, I cannot update the firmware. There is no interface on the printer itself to download new firmware, and HP Smart cannot find the printer even when it is plugged into my computer via USB.

For Option C, these troubleshooting options don't appear relevant to my printer. The indicator lights in the troubleshooting guide do not resemble the interface on my printer.

Please let me know if you have any further ideas.
