My color ink cartridge ran out.
If I leave it in, the entire printer refuses to serve out any function.
If I take it out, the printer will copy and print test pages but will not print documents.
I've tried turning the printer to greysscale and turning off bi-directional support.
How do I print in Single-Cartridge Mode or with an empty color cartridge inside?
Thanks.

Single cartridge mode is when you use a single cartridge, colour or black. If you have 2 cartridges that is not single-cartridge mode anymore, and if any of those 2 cartridges is empty or defective printer will stop.

Hi,
As mentioned above, you would need to remove the copr cartridge form the printer to print in single cartridge mode.
If I take it out, the printer will copy and print test pages but will not print documents.
What happens when you try to print documents from the computer? what exact error message or behavior occur?
How is the printer connected to your PC? is it connected via USB or through a wireless network connection?

So, I've tried printing with the color cartridge in and out. The laptop is connected by USB.
3632 doesn't really have a screen so there's just orange indicators by the ink level. The HP Smart app just says to fill the ink and nothing about how the file keeps getting ignored in single cartridge mode.
With the color cartridge, the laptop just refuses send up the document, hanging on zero % upload on the file. Without the color cartridge, Windows keeps saying "error- sent to printer." But somehow test pages and black copies work just fine.
I've also managed to trigger the test page off of the HP Smart App using the computer but no luck with actual print jobs.
Of course, the first thing I did was to change the printer options to black and white. And I know from experience that it works fine if I insert the color cartridge but I only use this for documents and find it wasteful, especially since the color ink is not used but just dries out.
1) I need to understand how to override the ink error and print off of single cartridge mode.
2) Or I need steps to inject a filler into the cartridge itself to trick the sensor.
