Just replaced both cartridges (InstantInk delivery, so presumably bona fide), and I get this Christmas tree configuration.  Any clues as to what is up?  And yes, I HAVE switched it off and on, I HAVE unplugged the power cable, there IS NO paper jam and I HAVE reset to factory settings.  And according to the ever useful HP app diagnostics, everything works tickety-boo.  Thanks in advance.

@jkelecom, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I see you're dealing with what we in the biz like to call "the Christmas tree effect" — a lovely light show, but not quite the festive vibe you were hoping for! Sounds like you've already been through some excellent troubleshooting steps, but let's dig a little deeper into this situation.

Here’s a quick checklist that might help clear things up:

Recheck Ink Cartridge Placement

Even if those new Instant Ink cartridges look like they're seated properly, sometimes they just need that extra little "click" into place. Take out the cartridges, give them a gentle wipe (just in case there's any residue or dust), and then pop them back in.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Try a Hard Reset

If you haven’t done this already, try a hard reset:

Turn off the printer.

Unplug the power cord and wait about 60 seconds.

Hold the Power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.

Plug it back in and restart.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I couldn't have treated it any more gently if it had been my wife, and the hardware/software is up to date.  Still same result.  Meanwhile, I'm obviously paying an InstantInk account for ink I cannot use.  This is getting embarassing.
