Deskjet 3052A
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have had errors on my printer for the 61 Tri-Color Cartridge and figured I needed new ink cartridges. So, I have recently purchased new Hp ink cartridges for my HP Deskjet 3052A all-in-one printer. A Tri-Color 61 and Black 61 pack. After installing,  it still keeps giving one of two messages: Tri-Color Cartridge Problem or Tri-Color Cartridge Not Compatible. I have already gone through all the steps on the troubleshooter pdf including cleaning, and resetting the printer. I can only use the printer without the color cartridge installed. I spent $42.97 +tax on the cartridges. I can't get my money back from Walmart because the ink packs are opened. I would like to have this issue resolved. I have a new Tri-Color 61 ink cartridge that I apparently cannot use. It's very frustrating considering these things aren't cheap. Please let me know about how to get a refund for the color cartridge. I have the reciept for the purchase dated for   07-14-18.

Hey there! @Truster, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand after replacing the ink cartridges you are still getting tri-color cartridge problem error on your printer.

I understand you concern and situation, don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridge on your printer?

Replace low, faulty or empty ink cartridges on your printer.

This issue could occur if the electrical contacts on the printer or the cartridge are not working.

Clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges.

Try few steps recommended below.

Reset the printer
Resetting the printer can resolve some ink cartridge errors.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
   NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Try to print.

Remove, inspect, and reseat the ink cartridges

The ink cartridge might not have full electrical contact with the printer. Removing and reinstalling the ink cartridge might help.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.

The carriage moves to the center of the printer.

  3. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.

  4. Press down on the ink cartridge to release it, and then pull the ink cartridge out to remove it from its slot.

       CAUTION:

Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. This can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  5. Remove any clear protective tape that still might be on the nozzles.

       CAUTION:

Do not try to remove the copper electrical strip.

  6. Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, and then insert the ink cartridge into its slot. Make sure the icon on the ink cartridge matches the icon on the slot.

  7. Push the ink cartridge forward into its slot until it snaps into place.

  8. Repeat these steps for the other ink cartridge.

  9. Close the ink cartridge access door.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. It is a hardware issue with the printer or the ink cartridge.

I have tried everything and the problem has not been resolved. The printer is having issues with the new and the old color cartridge. The old cartridge probably is still good, but since I was having issues with the printer, I was hoping replacing it would resolve my problem. I even tried looking for printer updates. I was not able to find any firmware or software updates either. Now I have this new color cartridge that I can't use. I would like to return it to hp. The warranty on my printer went out a few years ago, so sending it in isn't really worth the cost. I might as well get a new printer. Until then, I'm stuck with a printer that cannot print color images and a color cartridge that I can't use.
