Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer is not printing any color ink; I have a full cartridge, tested for dried ink, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and drivers, but nothing seems to be working to fix the issue.  I am using an up&up hp 61 (Model CH532WN) ink cartridge for both black and color, but only the black will print. I am trying to avoid buying a new printer and have been troubleshooting this all day with no luck.  Any solutions? Thanks.

@BPRunks,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support community!

Are you facing the same issue when making a copy?

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Power Reset.

  • Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
  • Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

Step 2: Check print settings( try this If you can copy in color but cannot print in color)

  • In the software program that you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print. The Print dialog box opens.

  • Select your printer, and then click Properties or Preferences. The Properties dialog box opens.

  • Click the Paper/Quality tab.

  • From the Media drop-down list, select the paper type that matches the paper loaded in the printer.

  • Click the Advanced button. The Advanced Options dialog box opens.

  • From the Paper Size drop-down list, select the option that matches your paper size. For example, if you have legal paper loaded in your printer, select Legal 8.5x14in.

  • Under Printer Features, make sure that Print in Grayscale is set to Off unless you want to print in Grayscale intentionally.

  • Click OK, and then click Apply to apply the settings.

  • Click OK or Print from the Print dialog box to start the print job.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Check the ink levels, and then replace low or empty cartridges

  • Check the ink levels from the control panel.
  • From the main menu, select Ink Levels and touch OK.

  • The screen displays the ink levels with gauges for both cartridges.
    • If the ink-level graphic shows low or empty cartridges, and you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, replace the cartridges
    • If the ink-level graphic shows full cartridges, you do not need to replace the cartridges yet. Continue to the next step.

Step 3: Print and evaluate a diagnostic report and troubleshoot defects.

  • Follow Solution six from this link.

Step 4: Clean the ink cartridges (the area around the ink nozzles)

  • Gather the following materials:
    • Dry foam rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that will not come apart or leave fibers (coffee filters work well)

    • Clean sheets of paper

    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridges)

  • Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  • Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

  • Lightly press down on the cartridge to release it, and then pull the cartridge out to remove it from its slot.

  • Place the cartridge on a piece of paper with the ink nozzles facing up.

  • Lightly moisten a clean, foam-rubber swab with distilled water.

  • Clean the face and edges around the ink nozzle with the swab.

  • Either let the cartridge sit for 10 minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.

  • Hold the cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, and then insert the cartridge into its slot. Make sure that the icon on the cartridge matches the icon on the slot.

  • Push the cartridge forward into its slot until it snaps into place.

  • Repeat these steps to clean the area surrounding the ink nozzle on the other cartridge.

  • Close the cartridge access door.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

    • If the issue persists, Replace the problem cartridge.
