HP Deskjet 3720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I purchased my HP Deskjet 3720  in May 2018 and have been using it up to around December in 2018 printing photos and enjoying the instant ink scheme. Last month it hit a snag. It's not pulling through the paper when I try and print with photo paper (I was using 240 gsm/2 and have also tried 180 gsm/2 paper. The printer specs say it'll go up to 300 gsm/2) It appears that the two grey rubber rollers at the paper feed are not gripping the paper properly. This is Kodak Glossy photo paper at both of those weights. Instead it is causing damage to the photo paper. It is rubbing off the photographic coating and not picking up the paper at all. It will pull through and print standard cartidge paper however.

So I contacted support, It was under warranty and I was able to have a new printer sent on in it's stead. It arrived a few weeks ago, loaded it up with 280gsm/2 paper. Nada. Same issue. Recently got around to getting the 180gsm/2 paper and the same error has manifested. I cannot understand why this is happening on a new printer that has just been dispatched to me, nor can I understand why after around 250 A4 pages at 150gsm and 280gsm the other printer started manifesting signs of this.

I will freely admit that I understand this wee deskjet isn't designed for printing photos en masse but the fact that i have had two in a row, one being a refurb from HP having this issue is giving me little to no confidence in the brand. I Was intent on buying an envy later on this year for full page photographic prints but I'm thinking of saving my money and going elswhere or just using an online service in the end once a month.

Has anybody else experienced this problem with the 3700 series?

@Shenloanne,

Greetings and Welcome to HP Support Community!

Have you tried to use a different type of photo paper(HP Supported) and check if that works. To avoid paper jams and other issues, make sure you are using the correct type and size of photo paper when loading the main input and photos tray.

For more details, please go through the Printer specifications - Printer Specifications for HP DeskJet 3700 Printers

Alternatively, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - 'Out of Paper' Displays, Printer Does Not Pick Up Paper

HP Printers - How to Print Photos (Windows)

Hope this answers your question.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead.
