Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP

I am not a heavy user of my Deskjet 5150, so I don't use it often. I just wanted to print a document - black only - after a couple of months of disuse. Nothing, not even streaks. Blank page. I tried the usual head cleaning tricks, but no success. The  cartridge is recycled, not original HP. I have 2 - one new - but neither works. On a test page, only the 57 color cartridge works normally. Operating system XP. Is this a cartridge or a software problem? I reinstalled the driver. The printer is installed and working properly.
