Since Windows Update installed update 1803 to level 17134.48 five days ago, my HP DeskJet Ink advantage1516, which was working well before, fails to print any document.
I can successfully scan documents or pictures, can use the device to copy offline, but any attempt to print from Acrobat i.e. ends up in message 'Error occurreed while printing document'. Other applications produce similar error messages.
I already tried to find the cause by running HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.1, but it ends up in proposing to print a test page, which again doesn't cause any printer action (and no error message).
From the device properties menu, initiated from device manager, I can see 3 events, recorded the same time the Windows update was running:
- device installation requested
- device migrated
- device installed
The last event has recorded the following information (in german unfortunatelly):
Der Prozess zum Installieren von Treiber hpvyt11.inf_amd64_923d9f822770bc5c für Geräteinstanz-ID USBPRINT\HPDESKJET_1510_SERIES\8&1A5B0AA3&0&USB002 wurde mit folgendem Status beendet: 0x0.
Tranlastion: The process to install device driver hpvyt... for device-ID USBPRINT\... ended with status 0x0.
Obviously the WIN 10 supplied driver has any bug which is causing not to print.
Is there any working driver availabe from HP?
THX in advance Wolfgang

It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.
Going through your post, it looks like an issue with the print spooler. Follow the steps below to clear the print spooler:
Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
Now check for issue resolution.
If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Restart your computer.
Now click here to download and install the software.
Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
MKazi is at your service.
I understand that your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1516 All-in-One Printer has stopped printing after the Windows 1803 update happened on your computer. I read that the printer is able to scan and make a photocopy which confirms that the printer and ink cartridges are all fine. You have been fabulous to work with considering your superb technical skills and valuable patience. Kudos to you for that.
Have you tried to print from multiple applications and checked?
The evidence points towards a drivers/software issue. I suggest you to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor too. This tool will fix any issues with the printer drivers:
Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to the computer.
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor, and then follow the on-screen prompts to install and open the tool.
On the Welcome screen, click Start to view a list of available printers.
Select your printer in the list, and then click Next.
If your printer is not listed or a connection problem is detected, click My product is not listed or select your connection type, follow the on-screen instructions, and then click Retry.
Click either Fix Printing or Fix Scanning.
If you are prompted to install the printer software, follow the on-screen instructions. The software can resolve many printer issues.
Review the list of test results, and then resolve any issues found.
If you see a checkmark
, the printer passed the test.
If you see a wrench
, HP Print and Scan Doctor found an issue and repaired it.
If you see an exclamation point
, the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see an X
, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
Now you may attempt to print and check how it goes. In case the issue persists then you may uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK. (There is a space between printui.exe and /s).
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- You may click here to download and install the drivers.
Once again you may attempt to print after the drivers are successfully installed.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.
All the best! 🙂

Hello MKazi,
thx for posting your reply.
Your asked if I attempted to print with other apps and proposed to use HPPSD, which I both already posted:
>>
Other applications produce similar error messages.
I already tried to find the cause by running HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.1, but it ends up in proposing to print a test page, which again doesn't cause any printer action (and no error message).
<<
I however succeeded to create a diagnostic page from HP printer assistant - Printer Maintenance - Device reports - print diagnostic data.
As this gives the same result page as the printer key initiated Test page, I'm assuming, that this is only transmitting a low level command to the printer to initate the test procedure.
I also asked, if there is a new printer driver available from HP to support HP 1516 with WIN 10-1803 as I recognized, that the former driver has been replaced by that update.
Thx Wolfgang

Hello MKazi,
as you proposed: >>
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK. (There is a space between printui.exe and /s).
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it << and click Remove at the bottom
I followed up to the last point.
However, there there are 2 drivers displayed for HP 1510 series - one type3 and one type4 driver;
both are indicated 'user mode'.
Should I remove them both or just one of them?
Thx for any answer
Wolfgang

You're most welcome. You have been fabulous to work with considering your superb technical skills and valuable patience. Kudos to you for that.
Yes, you may remove both the drivers that are listed and then attempt to install the drivers suggested.
Hope this helps.
Good luck! 🙂

Hello MKazi,
I was able to remove the type4 driver - however when trying to remove the other type3 driver I'm repeatedly getting a msgbox with this translated text:
The driver HP Deskjet 1510 series, x64,
type 3 - user mode cannot be removed.
The mentioned printer driver is in use.
However the printer cable is disconnected and I furthermore cannot find the printer in device manager.
How to proceed ???
confused Wolfgang

Hi MKazi,
I finally succeeded to remove the driver after doing a Reboot of my PC. Then after another reboot and I no longer could see the driver neither in Device Manager nor in Devices and Printers, I connected the printer cable and some installation process was initated.
After that, I could find the HP 1510 series in DeviceMgr and also in Devices and Printers, however it doesn't get listed in the printers to select for printing in neither Acrobat nor Office apps nor even Notepad nor Wordpad.
In the properties from Devices and Printers, there is also missing the option to select this printer as standard/default printer.
It appears to me, that the systems is seeing this printer as a scanner device, because on right-click it offers only:
Open
-----
start scanning
scan profiles ...
scan properties
-----
create link
-----
remove device
problem handling
-----
properties
<<<
Even after another reboot nothing gets better.
The last event which was recorded in Properties-Events is:
Der Prozess zum Installieren von Treiber hpwia_dj1510.inf_amd64_5fdddf1a36aa6174 für Geräteinstanz-ID USB\VID_03F0&PID_C111&MI_00\7&AE779DF&2&0000 wurde mit folgendem Status beendet: 0x0.
Still confused and without printing printer

Hello Jeet_Singh,
thanks for posting the link to the driver file dj1510_188.exe.
After my last findings, I again run HPPSDr.exe and it diagnosed that there are driver problems.
Then I run the DJ1510_188.exe you mentioned and finally the correct driver is installed.
I could successfully print, scan and copy afterwards.
Thx a lot
Wolfgang
