I have a Deskjet 2650 Printer that cannot get it print # 6 ¾ envelopes. When attempting to print these the printer most often takes the envelope inside then stops for periods of about 10 minutes. When I press the cancel button to force it to rejects the envelope it, the resume light continues to flash. The printer seems to make no effort to do anything. I check the paper path and never find a paper jam. Pressing the information button it gives a E4 trouble code. After time has passed the printer out the envelope completely blank. I'm guessing that this must be caused by a paper alignment and loading problem. Checking the user manual, it gives no information the proper way to physically place the envelope in the feeder. Ie, whether the flap should be up, down or aligned to the left or right edge to the tray. One posting I found stated that when printing envelopes a few blank pages of 8 ½ x 11 should be loaded in addition to the envelope. As yet I have not found how many is not enough or too many. After wasting so many hours trying. I end up printing on a standard sheet of paper. I then end up cutting that to be glued to a envelope as a label. This has become a bottom less pit. An old fashion typewriter is better suited to print envelopes than this deskjet. Where the “blank” can I find a specific detailed set of instructions.

I cannot find clear evidence that this printer supports printing the smaller envelopes.
Short answer: No matter what you do, it may not work. Print labels for your envelopes.
Optional Reading
The loading instructions in the User Guide for this "2600" model do appear to leave something to be desired.
Another Deskjet printer (same body type) provides a better example.
Load up to five envelopes - face up - flap (hidden underneath) on the left side.
Example

Back to the issue..
The Specifications do not show "regular" (6/3/4") envelope size in the supported media list.
Example
Product Specifications for the HP DeskJet 2652 All-in-One Printer (V1N05A)
Section Paper Handling
Media sizes supported (metric) | A4; B5; A6; DL envelope |
Media sizes supported (U.S. standard) | Letter; Legal; 4 x 6 in; 5 x 7 in; 8 x 10 in; No. 10 envelopes |
The printer does apparently support custom paper size.
Media sizes, custom (metric) | 89 x 127 to 215 x 279 mm |
Media sizes, custom (U.S. standard) | 3 x 5 to 8.5 x 14 in |
The problem - if there is one - is that envelope sizes created with Office Word, even though they fall within the size for Custom Paper Size form, do actually have restrictions on the size of a custom envelope. When the Custom size you enter fails because the printer cannot accommodate the size of envelope, the software comes back with an error and a proposed "I can't do that but I can do this" message / setup.
COMMON ENVELOPE NAME STANDARD SIZE MAXIMUM ENCLOSURE SIZE
6-3/4 envelope | 3-5/8 x 6-1/2 inches | 3-3/8 x 6-1/4 inches |

What to do?
Well, you can try it - Set the envelope as a custom size.
- Load the envelopes
- Tell the printer about the paper in the tray
- Set up the job
Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Display Panel
Note: This option is not applicable to printers that lack a printer display panel and might not be available on all printer models that do include a printer display panel.
Open Printer Tray,
If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type
Wait a couple of seconds…
Close Tray
IF applicable for your printer:
Look for a message on the Printer Control / Display Panel,
Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK
NOTE:
If the size of your Paper Size is not in the Drop-down menu,
If the selection is available in the list:
Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)
And / Or
Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Note: This option is not applicable to printers connected via a USB printer cable (no network connection).
If the printer is on the network,
If the EWS feature is supported on your printer,
Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / configure your printer.
NOTE: Laser printer options in EWS are very different from those offered in InkJet Printers.
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management
If applicable, check the Advanced section (at the bottom of the Tray and Paper Management menu)
Click Apply to save changes
NOTE: If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down menu, Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)
NOTE 2: EWS is also available in HP Smart Windows and HP Smart Mobile > Settings > Advanced
Set the Preferences – Windows
NOTE: This section is not applicable to Mobile Printing.
Printing Preferences are available directly from the driver or might be called "Printer Properties" / "Shortcuts" (or similar) from within printing software / applications.
Notes:
- Generally, Ignore this section when not relevant – for example, when using Word > Mailings > Envelopes.
- In the case of PDF printing, set the Preferences (below) or set the Properties during the job setup.
That said, consider:
Make sure the Printing Preferences shortcut is set to "Everyday Printing" or something equally benign. For example, don't leave the shortcut set to Booklet printing choices or other custom setups that are completely contrary to printing envelopes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”
Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners
UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer
Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default
- Select and adjust settings in each category for the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size.
Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners
Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage > Printing Preferences
Next
Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight your preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit
NOTE - Make changes to a Shortcut
- Select a shortcut and adjust the settings for paper, source (tray), other settings / Tabs
- Scan Menu for HP Scan >> If there is a More > section, check / adjust settings in the sub-sections > Click OK to save sub-menu changes
- If supported, save the edited shortcut or use “Save As” or “Create Custom Shortcut” to save as a new / different file name
- Click OK to save the setup

What else?
You could try using Word to create a document in the size of the 6 3/4 envelope.
Set the document Layout > narrow margins, orientation Landscape.
Page size = custom > size of the envelope = 6-1/2" inches wide and 3-5/8" tall
Create text boxes for the return and destination addresses.

Thank you for your assistance. I never thought that any makers of consumer grade printers that prints users letters would not have the capability of printing related envelopes. It I thought that printing envelopes would be an automatic related function included in all modern printers. I'm a user of Open Office Writer. OOW appears to be capable of printing any type or size envelopes. My experience has been that the printer does not print as instructed by OOW. The printers response is too be confused and disoriented. If it fits into the slot and has a sliding guide and is capable of printing in landscape why does it discriminate against envelopes.
There is one point you pointed out that I have to routinely deal with on all types of printing jobs. Every time I open W10, I find that the printer is set as the default being offline. W10 never fails to remain online after being set to be online during the previous print job. I have found nothing about W10 being able to be locked online. Thank You for your assistance.
