I setup my HP OfficeJet 5255 printer/scanner yesterday. It works fine but my problem is there is no desktop App like my past HP printers/scanners had and I accidently stumbled upon it being in my laptop's system settings. That sure makes it unhandy having to open multiple things to get to the App instead of it being on the desktop as it use to be. Can I still have a desktop App too?

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support community!
The app short-cut usually gets added once you have installed a full feature printer software.
First, let's check if the full feature software is installed.
- Press the Windows key
- Type and search the Printer Model i.e Officejet 5255
- If the Full feature software is installed, it shows up in the list of results. (Refer to the below example)
- If the printer shows up in the list of results, we have to add the short-cut to the desktop.
- Right click on the printer icon on the list of results and select Open File Location
- Right click on the Printer shortcut and select 'Send to' > 'Desktop'(Create Shortcut)
- This adds the shortcut to the desktop
If the Printer does not show up in the list, then the full feature software may be missing.
- Click on this link to download the full feature printer driver.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation.
- This should add a short-cut to the desktop.
- If the short-cut is missing, follow the above steps to add the short-cut.

Sorry to say this solution did not work for me. I did as you said multiple times and when selecting the windows key and typing in HP OfficeJet 5255 it showed a few files available but not the icons of the printer itself as in your example. What iit does do is take me to the App in my HP Systems settings where I can then select the Printer/Scanner App and it opens all the info of my printer and or scanner whichever I choose. This has the icon of the printer showing like the example you showed should show when I select the windows key. But if I right click or for that matter double click left or right it will not show me I have and options of adding a desktop icon. In fact right clicking or left clicking does nothhing at all a this Systems/printer/scanner site when it opens. So I etiher had a HP laptop comuter that sets up things it's own way or something not right going on. When at the Systems printer/ app and open that it does show me al l things available I can do or select with my printer or scanner like I use to be able to do with my desktop App with my previous HP Photosmart Printer/scanner. So guess this is the way with this new HP OfficeJet 5255 is it puts the App only in my Systems files. IT isn't that bad having to go this route to get to my printer info but just a tad faster if one has the desktop App.
Thanks for you help ATHARVA.

As informed before if the printer icon is missing from the Windows Search, then it means the full feature printer software may not be installed on your PC.
- Click on this link to visit the download page
- Download the full feature printer software
- Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation.
- This should add a short-cut to the desktop.
