Officejet 4500 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello .... This is my first visit to the HP Forum.

Does anyone possibly know what is the difference between my Officejet 4500 All-in-One-Printer G510g and the 4500 G510h?    Mine is from 2011 or 2012 and using the latest Sept 2014 HP Full Driver Software on a 64-Bit Win7 Pro system.  All still works well and my printing and scanning usage is very low (2 or 3 printed pages a day now that I'm retired).

I was successful in discovering the difference between the G510g (wired usb) and the G510n (wireless).

However, I have searched the internet and HP.com thoroughly and can not find the difference between my G510g and a G510h (other than the G510h also connects via wired usb cable and is not wireless).

My unit's Box Label Shows:

HP Officejet 4500 G510g

S/N:[Personal Information Removed]

B9D79A

Product No.

B1H

Option

The reason I ask is my IPv6 1Ghz ASUS RT-N56U Router Guide lists the HP 4500 G510h unit as one of the many printers (from various manufacturers) which they have actully tested to work successfully from either of the router's two USB 2.0 ports when using the ASUS Printer Software Utility.  ASUS further states the list is not complete and that other Printers may also work, so I'm hoping the G510g is almost a twin of the G510h and will work when I get around to trying it.

Can anyone help clarify?

Also, anyyone know what the B1H Option means as shown on my 4500's box label?

Thanks folks!

Hi @George-O,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

.

Yes, except for connectivity that the G510g and G510h are essentially same units. The H suffix could be just a region specific notation.

You have a good day ahead.

Hi Rainbow23 .... Thanks.

Unfortunately, I've already searched the Adobe PDF document which you suggested (and all others found on HP.com's site for the HP 4500 All-in-One Printer series ) using the Adobe Reader 11 Edit/Find function individually for "G510g", "G510h", "G510-g" and "G510-h" to no avail.

This is really a mystery.

Please advise if you possibly have any other thoughts or suggestions .... much appreciated ... Thanks again.

Hi @George-O,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

The user guide is common to all the models in Officejet 4500 All-in-One-Printer series.

Except for connectivity, all the models in the series have same features.

You may check the specifications under connectivity from the link: Printer Specifications for HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer Series

Hi Rainbow23 .... Thank you again, however I had already checked that link under connectivity and it only lists the G510a, G520b, G510g and the wireless G510n.

Here is a link to the G510h when "G510h" is searched at HP.com under Products:

HP 4500 G510h

Unforunately,  the user guide and other product description and spec links at that page are the same non-specific G510 files I've already reviewed.  From wha I've seen the G510a was USB only, the G510g has both USB and Wired Ethernet connectors, and the G510n had USB and Wireless (but no Wired Ethernet) ... Not sure about the G510b and G510h.

Could it be that the "h" version was for overseas sales?

For now, I'll assume as you stated that except for connectivity that the G510g and G510h are essentially same units, but I am still somewhat curious.

Thanks again and all the best,

All the best,
