I would really appreciate a straight answer to this very simple question: DOES THIS PRINTER WORK WITHOUT A PAID SUBSCRIPTION?!  I just bought an HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 and have spent some time connecting it, checking everything is working - but it won't print, and it looks like it won't print until I pay HP more money! Do I have to take out a paid subscription so that it will print? (If so, then this machine is going straight back to the store - because it's illegal to sell a machine which won't work without paying more money to the manufacturer of that machine. Hey, if HP wants to give me a printer, I'll be happy to pay for a subscription to use it...). Thanks.

Hi @EveEveEve ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

No, you do not have to pay for a subscription to use your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer. The printer should work without any additional paid services. You can use it for basic functions like printing, scanning, and copying without subscribing to HP’s Instant Ink service or any other paid plan.

If your printer isn’t printing and seems to be prompting you for a subscription, there might be another issue at play. Common issues could include:

  1. Printer Setup: Double-check that the printer is properly set up and connected to your computer or network.
  2. Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and are not empty.
  3. Software Issues: Verify that you have the correct drivers and software installed on your computer.
  4. Printer Status: Make sure the printer is not in an error state or displaying any warning messages.

HP offers a subscription service called HP Instant Ink, which provides a monthly ink delivery service at a discount, but it's entirely optional. Your printer will work fine with regular ink cartridges that you purchase separately.

Refer to this document: HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
HP printer setup (Mac built-in driver)
HP printer setup (Windows built-in driver)
HP printer setup (Wi-Fi network)

May I know if you have observed any error messages while trying to print?

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
