Solved!

Document still shows as printing after it has printed

HP Recommended
Photosmart 7510
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After a document has printed it still appears as printing. Document cannot be cancelled and no further documents can be printed unless I uninstall the device and reinstall it, every time.

@Cassandra_M

That's a pretty old printer.  Nice printer; years back I did used to have a couple of PhotoSmart 7520 printers - once I could get the ratty things to stay on the network, they really did do a nice job of printing documents and images.

After all these years, I would guess you know that printer very well, including the software management / uninstall-reinstall of the printer software.

What else?

That said, if the issue is on the "other side", that is, if the problem is in the Windows Print Services,

the following might help:

Print Queue / Print Service Reset

After a print job has been submitted, it is very quickly turned over the Windows Print Services for completion.

When a job is "stuck in the queue", it is sometimes due to Print Services having hung, become stuck, or otherwise failing to properly complete the job.

Start Here:  Print job stuck in Queue

and / or

If the current print job will not cancel or if a previous print job is stuck in the queue,

and

If the issue is due to Print Services being stuck / hung / corrupted, Restart the Print Service

Manual Queue Reset

Details…

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services

Scroll down, find, Right-Click, and Stop Print Spooler Service

Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)

Navigate to the folder and Delete the files from folder C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

Start Print Spooler Service

I had not known about the Administrative Tools before, useful to know. Thank you Dragon-Fur.

Doing as you suggested did clear the printer queue but took nearly as long as uninstalling and reinstalling the printer. I have know found that using the Print and Scan Doctor will clear the queue too, but I still have to repeat it each time I want to print.

I shall try re-downloading the software and reinstalling, but the info says the latest edition is 2015! This queueing problem has only been an issue since the most recent Windows 10 update and so I am not convinced that a 2015 version will help.

You are welcome.

Yes, reloading five year old software might help or it might be a colossal waste of time.

You could try switching the connection to a TCP/IP port.

If the issue is caused by a weird drop / connection problem, the port might help.

Method - Create TCP IP port

Find printer's IP /  IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on Printer Control / Display Panel

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer > Left-Click Printer Properties

Select Tab Ports  > Add Port

Select Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port and follow the wizard.
Use / Enter IP address for the printer.

Example - How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by greenturtle

Video:  Create & Use TCP IP port
“Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)”
