Printer is hp photosmart 5520. Printer won’t print from 10th generation iPad. Printer displays “connecting” but nothing happens. Tried switching off and on, but no joy. Tried to access printer queue but using app switcher doesn’t display print centre, though apparently it should? Internet connection is wireless & is working with other devices

Hi @Freda74,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Photosmart 5520 printer is not printing from your 10th generation iPad and you're unable to find the printer queue or Print Center on the iPad, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that your HP Photosmart 5520 printer is connected to the same wireless network as your iPad.
  • On the printer's control panel, check the wireless connection status to confirm it is connected to your network.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your HP Photosmart 5520 printer and your iPad. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.

Verify Printer Driver:

  • Ensure that the HP Photosmart 5520 printer driver is installed on your iPad. Typically, iPads do not require separate drivers, but it's essential to ensure the printer is recognized.

Use AirPrint Feature:

  • iPads support AirPrint for printing wirelessly to compatible printers like the HP Photosmart 5520.
  • Open the document or photo you want to print on your iPad.
  • Tap the Share icon or the Print icon (usually represented as a square with an arrow pointing up or a printer icon).
  • Select your printer (HP Photosmart 5520) from the list of available printers. Ensure it is selected and not another printer nearby.
  • Adjust print settings if needed (number of copies, duplex printing, etc.).
  • Tap "Print" to send the print job to your printer.

Access Print Queue (Print Center):

  • On iPads running iOS 13 and later, the Print Center or print queue can be accessed from the app switcher.
  • Double-tap the Home button or swipe up and hold to enter the app switcher view.
  • Swipe left or right until you find the Print Center icon (looks like a printer) or the app where you initiated the print job (e.g., Safari, Photos).
  • Tap on the app to open the print queue or Print Center. This will show you any pending print jobs and their status.

Update iPad Software:

  • Ensure that your iPad has the latest version of iOS installed. Updates can include bug fixes and improvements for printing functionality.

Check Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Photosmart 5520 printer. Install any updates if available.

Check Wireless Network:

  • Ensure that your wireless network is stable and has a strong signal. Issues with the network can sometimes prevent devices from communicating properly.

Reset Printer Network Settings (if necessary):

  • On your HP Photosmart 5520 printer, navigate to the network settings and reset the network settings.
  • Reconnect the printer to your wireless network by entering the network name (SSID) and password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
