Hi @Crabfatblue,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer is printing double images for black and white documents, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check Print Quality Settings:
- Go to the printer settings on your computer.
- Under the "Print Quality" settings, make sure it is set to "Normal" or "Best." Sometimes setting it to "Draft" can cause poor quality output.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer.
Run the Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can help diagnose and fix printing issues automatically.
Perform a Printer Reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Clean the Printhead:
- Access the printer maintenance menu and select the option to clean the printhead. This can help remove any ink buildup that may be causing issues.
Check Paper Quality:
- Ensure you are using the correct type of paper. Sometimes, using low-quality or incorrect paper can affect print quality.
Print from Different Applications:
- Since you mentioned that it prints fine from Word documents, try printing from other applications (e.g., PDF readers or web browsers) to see if the issue persists across all software.
Factory Reset the Printer:
- If none of the above solutions work, consider performing a factory reset on the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
