I've been having a consistent problem with the printer. Whatever I print, from any application, it always "double prints" the first page. Not two separate first pages. But the same page, printed twice, on top of the same piece of paper.
I have read multiple posts on this same topic. I've tried a few suggestions, but so far, nothing seems to fix the problem.
The firmware is up-to-date. I tried a "hard restart" (unplugging and plugging in again), but the problem persisted.
This is particularly annoying since I pay by the amount of sheets I use per month and this is needlessly adding to my total. Not to mention the hassle and frustration.
If anybody has a fix for this please let me know. I'm on an iMac running Sequoia 15.0.1. Thanks.

Hi @Streetworks,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The double printing issue you're experiencing on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, where the first page is printed twice, could be caused by a few different factors. Since you've already updated the firmware and performed a hard restart, here are some additional troubleshooting steps to try.
Check Printer Settings
- Page Layout: Ensure the page layout is set correctly. In your print settings, make sure you haven't accidentally selected an option like "N-up" printing (which prints multiple pages on a single sheet).
- Duplex Printing: If duplex printing (two-sided printing) is enabled, try turning it off to see if it resolves the issue. Sometimes, issues can occur with duplex settings when they don't apply properly.
Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Since you're using an iMac, it's worth reinstalling the printer drivers. There might be a glitch causing the issue.
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Remove the printer from the list.
- Re-add the printer and allow macOS to download and install the correct drivers.
- Alternatively, you can install the latest drivers from HP’s official website to ensure compatibility.
Print Queue Settings
- Sometimes, the print queue can hold onto old jobs, which can cause repeated prints. Clear any pending print jobs in the queue.
- Open the Printers & Scanners section and select your printer.
- Click on Open Print Queue, and cancel any pending jobs.
Reset the Printing System
- As a last resort, try resetting the entire printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers and select Reset printing system.
- Re-add the printer again.
Check for Firmware Bug
- Even though your firmware is up-to-date, there may still be an issue with the current version. If the problem persists, check HP’s support website or forums for any recent updates or patches addressing this issue.
Give these steps a try, and hopefully, one of them will resolve the double printing issue!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
