I have had the same problem for several days, I solved it by addressing the firmware directly from my computer using the printers ip address. in my case i had set the ip address manually so that it is static.  Select Settings at the top line, then scroll down to security and select administrative settings, scroll to the bottom where it says printer updates and unselect any checked boxes.  This worked for me.

Help needed please, Digital Maniac.  Getting the download unsuccessful error message, which is not allowing me to print automatically.  I need a further explanation of your response as I tried to follow but no luck.  Really would appreciate more info.  Thanks.

Stop the download, don't retry. Once the printer is up again, on the printer, go into settings and find network set up, scroll down to the print network configuration.  In there will be the IP address. From your computer, type in the IP address.

Then follow the rest of my previous instructions.

Where am I supposed to type in the IP address?

HP Recommended

In your browser on your computer

I'm not understanding your instructions to resolve this issue. I don't understand what I'm supposed to do after typing the IP address into the browser? I also can't find the privacy/security settings you said to check.

Could you explain how you fixed the issue? I'm not understanding the initial explanation on how to fix it.

I solved it by addressing the firmware directly from your computer by entering the printer's IP address and pressing enter. This will bring up the printer firmware interface.  Select Settings on the top line, then scroll down, select security, and then select administrative settings, scroll to the bottom where it says printer updates, and unselect any checked boxes and save the new settings.  This worked for me.
