Envy 5640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After automatic installation of Windows updates on 20. Apri 2018 connection to the printer was lost. Installed HP's latest software for the printer. Windows claimed "Status connected, driver unavailable".

I have now found a solution to the problem:

After having added the printer via Windows Control Panel "Devices and Printers" it had a state of "Driver unavailable".

I then right-clicked on the printer icon and selected "Properties, Hardware, Driver, Uninstall device".

Then I added the printer again via the Control Panel and this time it worked.

It didn't find the printer during the network search, so I keyed in the IT-address and the printer was added.

So the HP-software worked, but Windows apparently had a problem installing it.

@Vmax1200

Welcome to HP Support Forum. Firstly, please download an run the following tool (for Windows computers only):

      http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

It may fix the problem for you. If not, post back full error message(s).

Regards.

I removed the printer definition from Windows "Devices and Printers". Then ran the software you described.

Added the printer again in Windows, unfortunately with the same result:

Windows status: "Not connected, driver unavailable".

The HP-software can see the printer.

I can print from my Android phone.

Hi,

I think you did not follow the process otherwise the tool should tell you something. Anyway, please

(a) Download and save the following software and drivers on your computer (remember where)

     http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/en5640/EN5640_Full_WebPack_40.11.1135.exe

(b) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,

(c) Select Wireless and follow on screen instructions

Regards.

Hi,

I started by deleting the present non-working printer definition from windows.

Then downloaded the full software package and ran it as administrator.

During the installation I was asked to key in the IP-address and the WPS pin code.

I did and the installation was completed without any error messages.

I then added the printer again in Windows "Devices and Printers".

It did find the printer and added it without error messages during the creation process.

However, when the process was complete the printer icon was greyed out.

Left click on the printer icon displays:

State:  Network connected  Category: Printer

Manufacturer: HP              Status: Driver unavailable

Model: 0

The printer was working fine, until my computer received an automatic Windows update on 20. april.

So I suppose the problem is caused by Microsoft?

OMGoodness. The same problem was driving me nuts! I uninstalled an reinstalled the drivers many times. Downloaded newer version and everything. Nothing worked. This solution took a slightly different route than my previous attempts and worked great! Thank you!
