HELLOO!! 🙂

my colleges and i have the printer stated above.
we make alot of test print and we allmost allways want to compare testprint's
the problem is as follows: we check in at work and we print a file. then it prints duplex even tho we didnt turn it on. then we have to turn it on and off for it to work. then we go work some more and then all of a sudden it prints duplex again. we really try to be eco frendly and we waste alot of paper over just 2-3 weeks. we had the same problem with the last HP printer we had (dont know the name im just an internship) anyways good printers when we dont have this small problem.

ive seen that HP printers and mac (apple) dont go well together but i hope there is a solution 🙂

sorry for my bad english im a danish student 🙂

Hi @TVBNucleus,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Hello! 😊

I understand the frustration with your OfficeJet Pro 7740 printing duplex automatically and wasting paper. This issue can indeed be inconvenient. Let's see if we can resolve it!

Steps to Fix Duplex Printing Issue

Check Printer Settings:

Printer Preferences:

  1. Go to System Preferences on your Mac.
  2. Select Printers & Scanners.
  3. Click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 and then Options & Supplies.
  4. Go to the Driver tab or Options tab.
  5. Ensure that Duplex Printing or Two-Sided Printing is turned off if you don't want it.

Print Dialog:

  1. When you print a document, click on Show Details in the print dialog box.
  2. Look for a dropdown or option that says Layout or Finishing.
  3. Make sure Two-Sided or Duplex Printing is set to Off.

Reset Printer Defaults:

  • Sometimes resetting the printer settings can help.
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup.
    2. Navigate to Printer Maintenance or similar.
    3. Select Restore Defaults or Factory Reset.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed.
    1. Visit the HP Support website.
    2. Search for your OfficeJet Pro 7740 and download the latest drivers for macOS.
    3. Install the updated drivers.

Check Print Settings in Applications:

  • Some applications have their own print settings that might override default settings.
    1. Open the application you are printing from (e.g., Word, PDF viewer).
    2. Go to File > Print.
    3. Check the print settings within the application and ensure duplex printing is not selected.

Use HP Smart App:

  • The HP Smart App can sometimes help with managing printer settings more effectively.
    1. Download the HP Smart App from the Mac App Store.
    2. Set up your printer in the app and check for duplex printing settings.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date.
    1. Go to the HP Support website.
    2. Search for your printer model and look for firmware updates.
    3. Follow the instructions to update your printer’s firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
