Hi @CheekyMonkey75,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The E0 error code with all lights flashing on your HP DeskJet 2742e usually indicates a serious printer error or initialization failure. It often happens when the printer cannot complete its startup checks or detects a hardware issue.

Here’s what you can do to fix it:

Step 1: Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds, give the printer time to fully discharge (like letting it take a deep breath).
  • Plug the cord back in and power on the printer.

Step 2: Check Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure both cartridges are installed correctly.
  • Remove and reseat them gently, like snapping puzzle pieces into place.
  • If you see any ink or debris on the contacts, clean them with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Step 3: Remove Paper and Check for Jams

  • Take out all the paper from the tray.
  • Look inside for any tiny scraps or obstructions; sometimes even a small piece feels like a boulder to the rollers.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  • Connect the printer to Wi-Fi and check for updates via the HP App.
  • Firmware updates often feel like a refresh button for your printer’s brain.

Step 5: Factory Reset (if error persists)

  • Press and hold the Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 5 seconds until the lights blink.
  • This will restore default settings.

If the error still persists after these steps, it usually means the printer needs service or replacement.
