Hi @Acar4

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry this error keeps interrupting your printing—especially when everything else seems ready to go. The E1 error on HP printers typically means there's a paper size mismatch or a print job format issue, often triggered when the document settings don’t match the printer’s configured paper tray or media type.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help resolve it quickly.

Step-by-step actions to fix E1 error on HP printers

Check paper size settings on your computer

  • Open the document you’re trying to print
  • Go to File > Print > Printer Properties
  • Make sure the selected paper size matches what’s loaded in the tray (e.g., A4, Letter)
  • Avoid using custom sizes unless the printer supports them

Verify paper settings on the printer

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Paper Setup
  • Confirm the tray is set to the correct paper size and type (e.g., Plain, A4)
  • If prompted during printing, choose Use Settings or Confirm

Use the HP App to print

  • Open the HP App on your PC or phone
  • Select your printer > Print Documents
  • Choose a file and ensure the preview matches the tray settings

Reset the printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power on
  • This clears any stuck job or configuration mismatch

Let me know your printer model if you'd like help adjusting tray settings or if the error persists after these steps.

You’ve done the right thing by addressing this early, and we’ll make sure your prints come out smoothly again.
