Hi @Jbrown9,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The E6 error code on HP printers typically indicates a carriage jam or a paper jam that hasn't been fully cleared. Since you've already checked for paper and performed the recommended on/off and disconnecting procedures, let's try some additional troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.

Step 1: Hard Reset the Printer

Power Off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Wait:

  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.

Reconnect and Power On:

  • Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.

Step 2: Check Carriage Path

Open the Printer:

  • Open the printer’s top cover to access the carriage area.

Move the Carriage:

  • Gently move the print carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) to the left and right to ensure it moves freely.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Look for any small bits of paper, debris, or foreign objects that might be blocking the carriage path. Remove any found.

Step 3: Inspect and Reinstall Ink Cartridges

Remove Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer and carefully remove the ink cartridges.

Inspect for Damage:

  • Check the cartridges for any damage or ink buildup.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they click securely into place.

Step 4: Check the Rollers

Inspect Rollers:

  • Open the paper path cover and inspect the rollers for any paper pieces or debris.

Clean Rollers:

  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water to clean the rollers.

Step 5: Perform a Printer Reset

  1. Reset to Factory Settings:
    • Some printers have a menu option to reset to factory settings. Refer to your printer's manual to perform a factory reset.

Step 6: Update Printer Firmware

Download Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website and search for the latest firmware for your HP DeskJet 6020 printer.

Install Firmware:

  • Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Suggestions weren't successful so just bought a new printer.
