HP Envy 6400e series

My Hp ENVY 6400e series is flashing lights with the error code of E6 being shown on display. I've restarted and reconnected the device numerous times for the same issue to occur.

Hi @James3458,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the E6 error code on your HP ENVY 6400e series printer typically indicates a mechanical problem, often related to a carriage jam or an alignment issue.

Here's how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check for Paper Jams

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the printer and check for any paper jams or foreign objects inside. Look carefully around the carriage area and paper path.
  3. If you find any jammed paper, gently remove it. Make sure there are no torn pieces of paper left inside.
  4. Close the printer and plug it back in.

Step 2: Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the printer to the power source and turn it on. This can sometimes reset any internal errors.

Step 3: Check the Carriage Path

  1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  2. Manually move the carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) to see if it can move freely from side to side. If it's stuck, there may be something blocking its path.
  3. Remove any obstructions you find, then close the access door.

Step 4: Perform a Printer Alignment

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Go to 'Printer Maintenance' or 'Tools' depending on your app's interface.
  3. Select 'Align Printhead' or 'Align Printer' and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 5: Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  1. Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. You can do this through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website.
  2. If an update is available, follow the instructions to install it.

Step 6: Reinstall the Printer Software

  1. Uninstall the printer software from your computer.
  2. Reinstall the printer software by downloading the latest version from the HP website.

I hope this helps.
