HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer

When I try and print on my HP 2755e printer, 90% of the time the paper will go in just a bit and start printing then I end up with the three flashing orange lights, power light flashing, small E and large E on my screen blinking, as well as, everything else on the screen blinking as well. I can hit the power button one time and the lights will turn off and then the printer will reconnect to WIFI and then spit out the paper without finishing printing.  Then sometimes in about 1-2 minutes the printer will print the whole document out.  Sometimes I have to go to the print queue and have it restart the document.  Sometimes it will print right out and sometimes it will start the flashing again.

I have done all of the reboot protocols, even changed out both of my cartridges and even deleted the HP Smart app per another post at the end of January 2025 and reinstalled it.  I get the same sequence as above.  I then uninstalled the HP Smart app and tried printing without it on the computer and still get the same sequence as above.  The only time it will not get stuck and has completed the print job is when I loaded the new cartridges and it spit out the cartridge page for the alignments and if I go to settings/devices/printers and have it run a test page, sometimes it won't get hung up.

I have been printing from both word and from my email on google chrome. I even deleted HP Smart from my cell phone in case that was somehow interfering.  We have had the same issues when printing from our iPhone.

Update 2/11/25:  iPhone printing has now worked from two phones.  Still had the above scenario when I printed from my laptop.  Will try another laptop and another phone when I have the opportunity. I have not done the below suggestions yet, I will when I have time, but wanted to update on the iPhones working fine in case that would change the answer.

Hi @JBL7

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP Deskjet 2755e, especially with the EE error and inconsistent printing behavior. Let's walk through some potential solutions to address the flashing lights, the partial printing, and the error you’re encountering.

Steps to Resolve EE Error on HP Deskjet 2755e:

1. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Paper Jam: Ensure there’s no paper stuck inside the printer. Even a small piece of paper or debris could cause issues with printing.
  • Rollers and Feed Mechanism: Check if the rollers are clean and operating properly. Sometimes, dust or ink buildup can cause issues with paper feeding.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Hard Reset: You mentioned doing reboot protocols, but let’s try a full reset:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug the printer from the power source for about 60 seconds.
    3. Press and hold the power button while plugging the printer back in.
    4. Release the power button after 30 seconds and then turn on the printer again. This can help reset the internal printer settings.

3. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Cartridge Alignment: It seems like the alignment page prints, but just to be sure, try printing an alignment page again. You can do this via the printer settings or HP Smart.
  • Correct Cartridges: Double-check that the cartridges are installed correctly and securely. Even new cartridges can sometimes be faulty, or they might not be seated properly.

4. Reconfigure Printer Wi-Fi and Network Settings

  • Since you mentioned the printer reconnects to Wi-Fi, there could be a network issue or a timeout affecting the print job.
    1. Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using the printer's control panel.
    2. Reset the network settings by selecting "Restore Network Defaults" (usually found under the Network Settings menu).
    3. After reconnecting, make sure the printer’s Wi-Fi connection is stable.

5. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall HP Printer Software completely, and then download the latest drivers and software from the HP Support site.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers and ensure the correct printer is set as the default printer.
  • After installing, restart your computer and try printing again.

6. Update Firmware

  • Check for firmware updates for your HP Deskjet 2755e by visiting the HP website. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix bugs related to connectivity or printing errors.

7. Print Directly from HP Printer’s Control Panel

  • Since printing directly from your PC or mobile app seems to cause issues, try printing directly from the printer’s control panel or its embedded web server.
  • If it works well from the printer itself, it’s a sign that the issue may be related to the communication between your devices and the printer.

8. Clear Print Queue and Printer Spooler

  • Clear the Print Queue:
    • Open the Print Queue on your PC (right-click on the printer icon > See what's printing).
    • Cancel all jobs in the queue.
  • Restart the Print Spooler:
    1. Open Run (Windows key + R) and type services.msc, press Enter.
    2. Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click and select Restart.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your answer.  I have not done the above suggestions yet, I will when I have time, but wanted to update that iPhone printing has now worked from two phones.  When I posted this the other day I did not retest the phones, I assumed it would still happen like it had before so I should have retested them, not just my laptop.  I do still have the same scenario I described happen when I printed from my laptop.  Will try another laptop and another phone when I have the opportunity, but wanted to update with this info in case that might change your answer.

Hi @JBL7, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for your response.
Since the issue persists mainly when printing from the laptop but works fine from iPhones, here are some advanced troubleshooting steps to isolate and resolve the issue:

Advanced Troubleshooting Steps:

Check for Driver Conflicts & Install Generic Drivers

  • Uninstall the existing driver completely using the Print Management tool:
    1. Press Win + R, type printmanagement.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Under Print Servers > Your Computer Name > Drivers, right-click on the HP DeskJet 2755e and select Remove Driver Package.
    3. Restart your laptop.
  • Reinstall using Generic HP PCL 3 Class Driver:
    1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Click Add a printer > The printer that I want isn’t listed.
    3. Select Add a local printer > Choose USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB).
    4. Click Windows Update, wait for the list to refresh, then choose HP DeskJet 2700 series (PCL 3).
    5. Click Next and finish the installation.

Test with a Different Connection Mode

Since Wi-Fi printing is inconsistent, try a USB connection:

  • Plug the printer directly into the laptop using a USB cable.
  • If it prints fine, the issue may be with Wi-Fi communication rather than the printer itself.

Disable Bi-Directional Support (If Using Wi-Fi Printing)

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Go to the Ports tab and uncheck Enable bidirectional support.
  • Click OK and restart your PC.

Adjust Printer Timeout Settings (For Delayed Printing)

If print jobs take a long time to process:

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and choose Printer Properties.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Change Start printing after last page is spooled to Start printing immediately.
  • Click Apply > OK.

Change DNS Settings on Your Laptop

If the issue is due to network instability, changing the DNS might help:

  • Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
  • Click Change adapter settings.
  • Right-click Wi-Fi and select Properties.
  • Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Click Properties.
  • Change the DNS settings to:
    • Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
    • Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4
  • Click OK, restart the laptop, and test printing again.

Disable SNMP Status (For Network Printers)

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Go to the Ports tab.
  • Click Configure Port.
  • Uncheck the option SNMP Status Enabled and click OK.

Try Printing from a Different Laptop

  • If another laptop prints fine, the issue is isolated to the specific laptop.
  • Try creating a new user profile on Windows and check if the problem persists.

Check Event Viewer for Errors

  • Press Win + R, type eventvwr.msc, and press Enter.
  • Go to Windows Logs > Application and System.
  • Look for any errors related to PrintService or Spooler.

    I hope this helps!
