After I set up the new user, which software do you suggest I download?  the Basic Driver? The one for wireless printers (which I have)? The Easy start printer setup?  Under my own user name I have tried them all, to be honest. Right now I think it's installed with the Print and Scan Driver and accessories (the largest of the files)

 

Also, if this works, do I then have to log in as that user all the time in order to print color?

I appreciate your efforts and time.

 

As a last resort, please perform a Microsoft Push Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.

 

Now, install the printer and try again.

I was looking for direction on which version of the driver to download? (see my comments from above).

I found a downside to using the USB connection.  It appears that HP Smart will only work with a printer over WiFi.  Is that correct?  I have to remove the USB cables and remove the printer device that got installed when I connected the cables.  Only then can I use HP Smart.  I wanted to use it to scan in a document.

Yes, HP Smart only works on the WiFi connection.

 

Can you try installing the Windows 7 drivers for the printer on your Windows 10 PC? This is compatible and has been tried.

Apologize for not being able to get to this yesterday.  I removed the printer and installed WIndows 7 drivers and color option is not present.  Appears I will need to leave it as is to scan, and connect USB cable to install new printer to print color.  I'm not willing to install new OS on the computer - above my comfort level.  I will keep watching to see what worked for Fenn1.

What did work, however, is there is a new release file called HP Easy Smart (3/22/20) on the HP web under Envy 4520 - we did that install, but it showed up that it couldn't find the driver - we then had to manually install the printer (wireless) and when given the choice chose the version 20 of the latest driver the search found  - hope this helps others!
