I recently purchased an HP ENVY 5055 printer.
I had to buy this printer because my old HP 960c deskjet workhorse is not compatible with the new HP 290 pc running Win 10. - can only print documents I create on computer - everything else is pale gray and unreadable.
I had a great deal of trouble setting up ENVY printer on pc and setting up the wireless function.
I also downloaded HPSmart app for the Android tablet.
I was able to print satisfactorily from th pc and I managed to print something from the tablet, so I thought I was all set.
THEN, there was an upgrade and it seemed to me that instead of upgrading, they installed everything new because it asked me the same questions from initial setup (plus a few more) AND all the settings I had painstakingly put in were now gone. And an HP Scan icon popped up I have never seen before.
Went in and changed all back to where I want them (ex 4X6" print to whole page, B&W, dbl side, etc.)
CANNOT print from tablet: push print and nothing happened. Came into room with printer, pushed print and printer screen wants a button pushed within 30 seconds and STILL doesn't print. Then I push "print" again and it asks if I want to use a plugin - so I say yes and it finally prints.
BUT it printed one sided in color - not how printer is set.
What is purpose of wireless printing if one has to stand in front of machine to do it? AND it printed in color (I have printer set to B&W) AND it printed 2 pages when I have printer set to dbl sided.
Also, the printer shows on my tablet's available connections screen - do I want that?
I need help figuring out if there are 2 programs running, why the wireless portion needs so much input, why wireless is not printing to settings and what exactly does HPSmart do?
Should I delete the printer from my computer and start over and if so, how do I do that?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
On your Computer:
Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93
If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

On your phone, uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart App.
