Seems to be an issue with the print queue - any job sent to the printer by wifi from a package (e.g. Word) gets the message "Stopped - 'Filter' failed, 1 page"
Tried 'reset' printing system (on Mac it removes all printers), and reinstalled printer drivers many times using Easy Start. Printer works with a different machine (Macbook). This machine (MacAir) recognises printer and direct printing works. Diagnostics produce no problem - but test print doesn't print. HP Smart says printer isn't installed properly but wont install it - can't even find it most times! When it has installed it, it produces a 'Print queue issue not fixed' message. With no indication of how to fix it.
I'm stumped - has anyone got a work around?

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues printing.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you remove the printer from your computer and then download and install the driver from the below link and check if it helps.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip

Well of course I had tried removing the printer and installing it with Easy Start a number of times. But I gave it another go hoping your link was taking me to a different version that would load a different driver. But the test page failed to print and I got the same message... again.

I fear something has corrupted the Apple software that makes sense of the printer driver. I can use the printer using Direct Print and I did install it as an air print printer. Which I will now do again.
