I replaced my print cartridges and now my Envy 6055e is flashing multiple light patterns and will not print.

If your HP ENVY 6055e is flashing multiple light patterns and refusing to print after replacing the ink cartridges, it’s likely indicating an error related to the cartridges, alignment, or printer status

 

Let's go step-by-step to resolve it.

1. Power Cycle the Printer

This clears temporary glitches.

Turn off the printer.

Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check the lights again.

 

2. Understand the Light Patterns

HP Envy 6055e uses the light bar and icons on the control panel to signal different issues.

Here’s what some flashing patterns might mean:

Light Pattern

Meaning

Flashing Ink Drop (🖉)

Ink cartridge issue: not recognized, incorrect, or improperly installed

Fast flashing all lights

General error or critical error

Flashing Wi-Fi or Cloud icon

Connectivity issue

Alternating lights across the control panel

Printer in an error state or firmware issue

3. Check the Ink Cartridges

Since this happened after cartridge replacement:

Remove both cartridges (black and tri-color).

Inspect for tape — make sure the protective tape is completely removed.

Clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth or coffee filter slightly dampened with distilled water.

Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click.

Only use genuine HP cartridges. The 6055e may reject third-party or refilled cartridges, especially with HP+ active.

 

4. Perform a Printer Reset

Try a semi-reset:

Unplug the printer.

Hold the Power button for 30 seconds.

Plug it back in while still holding Power, then release after 10 more seconds.

 

5. Re-run Cartridge Alignment (if prompted)

Sometimes, flashing lights indicate the printer is waiting for you to complete the alignment process.

Check if a page prints automatically.

If not, open the HP Smart App and look for Alignment or Maintenance options.

 

6. Check HP Smart App for Errors

Open the HP Smart app on your phone or computer.

Tap your printer → Check for any status messages or instructions.
